I have a 110W A7 VHF securenet Spectra with an option I am not used to seeing. Radio model number is: T83GXA7HA7AK. Radio works great and it has one of the hottest receives of any radio I have owned. The radio has some sort of external securenet box and I can can only read the radio with the box attached (which it does fine). Question is...what is this box called?? I have heard of a SIB...Is that it??? Also I am wanting to remove the securenet feature from the programming, which I think is in the F2 conventional and then F9 other options, then securenet disable. I am hoping to use the radio and program up without this box, using just a regular cable.

What other info can anyone tell me about this box.....???

It's an ASN (Advanced SecureNet) box. It has been a while but I remember that there is an option to change the securenet type and I think it may be in the main radio features page. You should be able to disable it or change it to internal securenet but you will need a regular cable from the head to the radio after that. If you remove it and try to connect a regular head it will fail because it will be looking for that box. It has to be disabled in the programming prior to removal.

It should contain an encryption hybrid module and will likely hold several keys.

thanks for info.....It's funny....I am actually watching office space right now. I have a regualr cable. I went ahead and disables the securenet. It gave me several options: internal, external, couple others and disable. I selected disable and it went OK. i will give a test drive in the morning. UMMMMM yeahhhh.....I will be checking some TPS reports in the mean time.

That did it......by changing the external securenet to disabled I can now read the radio with regular control cable and don't need the securebox. On the control head options page the button the have for the securenet shows DVP. Where can I find more info about this box. I apologize for ignorance on keyloader options....Can someone direct me to a thread explaining keyloaders and how they work?
