It can be changed via the RSS, i don't think there was a way to disable it completely

Go into "System Configuration" . Main Menu then F4 to Change/View Menu, then F3 to Radio Configuration Menu, then then F2 then F3 (which is at the bottom of your screen) takes you to JT1000 Options, you'll see Programming Password -- you can use a minium of 1 character. And a max of 8... Like JonboyOK said, I don't think? theres a way you can do away with it?

IIRC you CAN have no password, but it still asks for one, just pressing the blue "enter" key will get you into the PROG menu. IIRC you change the existing password to none using this method.

Thats as far as I got also, I backspaced the password area so nothing was there. Still wanted me to press the blue/teal button. I even posted that here in 2006?

Factory password was JT1000(581000) on the keypad.
Of course, it could be changed, but that was what was programmed into it as a default IIRC.
