Leaving unprogrammed channels on an HT750?

I have an HT750 here that I'd like to program with only channels 1 and 2. I want channels 3 and 4 to just give a steady "unprogrammed" tone. The CPS insists that I assign a personality to all 4 channels. Can this be done?

unfortunately with the ht750's you are stuck with that, they won't let you un-assign channels. if they are vhf then just put noaa weather on 3&4?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. This limitation is a very bad thing IMO if the radio is to be used in an emergency situation by a not-so-radio-literate user.

Unfortunately it's UHF, so no NOAA.

Why don't you duplicate Ch. 1 in Ch. 4 and Ch. 2 in Ch. 3? That way, the Ch. 1 function is achieved by "turning to the stop" in either direction, and the Ch. 2 function is achieved by "turning to the stop and backing off one" in either direction?

Just delete channel 3 and 4 in the personality assignment zone (Right click and delete) and the radio will give you that unprogrammed tone when the radio is set to that channel.

You can't do that. There is no "right click and delete" available.

actually now that you say that i do believe that is an option. you have to highlight the channel on the left side then you should be able to right click on it and delete it? i don't know if it will let you write it to the radio that way or what will happen when you do it but that just might work? i don't have a 4 channel radio to try it on here but it's possible that the radio may just go to dead air when you go to that channel but with the rest of that line of radios it should beep like you want

It should work as ve3nsv said, I know we've done 4ch. ht750s with only 2 or 3 channels this way.

Ok, figured it out. Indeed, if you highlight the whole row for the channel you want to delete, then "Delete" is available when you right click.

Works fine and gives a steady beep when the channel selector is rotated to one of the unprogrammed channels.

I did this with all our fire portables. If you get in trouble and disoriented with the radio, all you need to do is bang the knob until it stops. Channel 1 and 16 are the same.

In fact, not having any channels in a zone "unprogrammed" is considered a pretty basic SOP for any public safety portable in my neck of the woods.

Just as I suspected, you can leave as many channels unprogrammed as necessary.

Simply open up the CP data and select the first channel in the personalities list, then look for the red 'X' for channel delete and delete any channel or number of channels you do not want in the radio.

I am using R06.07.04 CPS so I know it's in the later version(R06.09).

Actually, it's almost exactly the same as the commercial CPS for the CP200/PR400 as far as individual channel deletion goes.

Unlike the CP200 CPS where you have to edit the list of named personalities, you have to right click on the name, then select delete to get rid of that channel, then edit the scan list to verify the channel deletion.

Same goes for the channel numbering and location.
