Can I connect two Spectra radios to make a repeater with a RIK or a CR tone panel the same way you can with a couple of maxtracs or maratracs ? Any info would be appriciated, uh , apprechiated, uh would be great ! thanks.

It can be done, but deriving COS / PL Detect from a Spectra isn't the easiest to do. It might be easier if you used an outboard tone panel fed with discriminator audio from the Spectra to handle the COS (I've seen Communications Specialists TS-64P's used for PL detection and PL Detect line generation).

Remember that they won't be continuous-duty devices, even if you put fans on them and turn the PA's down.

I don't, because I don't really deal with crystal-based radios hobby-wise (except for SpectraTAC receivers).

However, if you peruse eBay and are diligent, you'll find one. I see them there all the time.

The MSR 2000 is going to be tremendously more reliable than back-to-back Spectra's for repeater service.

Good luck!

If you do decide to not fix the MSR 2000, an MSF 5000 can probably be had for not much money, and those beasts are perfect for repeater operation. They'll run full-tilt all day and all night until the cows come home.
