Not that I think motorola would ever lie about anything, especially with as much money as I spend with them a year, but I have been told that the Astro XTS3000 program Cable will not work with the Astro XTS5000. Truth? or Lie?

Motorola is right. XTS3K and Astro Saber program with a cable and rib.
XTS5K programs with a cable only and NO RIB. You probably already
know that the CPS is different as well.

In other words -
Truth
The 3k cable is totally different than the 5k.

Question then will a xts5000 cable only (ribless) be able to be used on a xts3000

No, they are completely incompatible.

If anyone offers you a "ribless" cable to program an XTS3000/Astro Saber
they are misleading you. What is sometimes done is the RIB itself is built
into one end of the cable, so while you can not SEE a RIB there is actually
one in the circuit.

Thanks for the info. The XTS5000 cable I'm guessing also has the built in rib into it am I correct to assume this also?

Somewhat. The "serial ribless" cable does have a RIB type of circuit built-in, although it's different than the 'standard' design and uses different pins on the radio's accessory connector. The USB cable doesn't contain a RIB per se, but does have supporting circuitry within the accessory connector end.
