Hello everybody. I own an HT1000 VHF Radio. The parallel port on the right hand side of the radio does not work. I took apart the radio, and can program it using another "face plate" cover from another HT1000 with a working port. But however, even though this works for both ends, I don't like this method, and I also don't like it because I can't use any accessories such as my mic and the programming cable. Any ideas? Can I just purchase a face plate that comes with the new port on it, or is there a way I can fix the port? I notice that there is a hole in between the ports, where the cover would be. I've taken a look and can't find anything wrong.

The usual fix for this kind of situation is to replace the case, which
includes the built-in side programming port.

That "hole" is where the button for the Public-Safety Remote Speaker Mic antenna switch would go. It's a plastic plunger that presses down on the antenna switch inside the portable when a PS RSM is attached.

So you are unable to read/write to the radio with this front housing? Sounds like you have a torn or damaged flex inside the radio. You can order this part and replace it yourself.

Inside the housing, there is a small PCB with the flex glued onto it that slides down into slots on the case to make the contact between the outside connector and the flex itself. Think of it as a "pass through". If the PCB/flex is not seated with the pass-through properly, you won't get any go on programming or other things requiring the accessory port.

Open up the radio and make sure the PCB is firmly seated against the accessory connector inside the housing.

That "hole" where the antenna switch plunger should be will not affect operation of the accessory port, it just won't switch to the speaker mic antenna on a public safety remote speaker mic without that plunger.

The top two pins above the "hole" are merely RF connections to the remote speaker mic and have nothing to do with programming or standard speaker mics.

Wow! d119, thank you! I took the PCB out of the slot and cleaned the contacts on both ends of the port and flex. Then I slid it back in securely and put it back together. To my amazement, the mic works. Now to program it again with some proper settings! Thanks a lot! I knew Batboards and the knowledgeable people here could help me out. Thanks again guys!
