Hi all, its been a while since i have been here, i have a few questions for the moto gurus, here goes

i have just purchased a XTS3000 UHF 403 – 470 MHz Radio
R07.10.00
DSPN08.01.02 Flashcode
100005-000600-5

Q806/G806 IMBE / APCO-25 Digital Operation
H35/G48 Conventional Operation
H37/G50 Smartnet Operation
Q387 Conventional voting scan
Q173/G173 Smartzone OmniLink Operation

i couldnt resist the price was too good, my question is that i really need it to do 9600bps P25, what is the best way to downgrade the firmware to ver 6.XX

your comments are greatly appreciated.

The best way = get out your cash and send it to Motorola.

Motorola probably won't be upgrading it for you either, rather having you buy an XTS2500, XTS5000 or something else instead. As other posts on the board (older ones) state, 9600 trunking and the XTS3000 is a rare combo. Because of the limited flash memory of the XTS3k (and astro saber, astro spectra too) having 9600 trunking will cause you to lose other features including degraded audio quality on analog RX. r0f had something about it a long time ago either here or on hamsexy.

Considering that the 9600 Host firmware (the latest of which I've seen is 06.71.00) uses the same DSP firmware as the regular Host firmware (latest 07.71.06), I find that highly suspect.

Kind of curious what the OP is going to do with 9600 on a UHF low split unit, other than a government trunking system. If that's the case and they're a legit gov't user, I'm sure Mother M would be happy to sell them the upgrade.

Ain't gonna run cheap, though. Last I heard it was on the order of $300.

Finally, must be a typo in the OP's flashcode, it lists conventional and smartnet, not smartzone.

That's because its not a downgrade. There was a fork in the Host firmware road that split 9600 onto its own track. R06.x is current Host 9600 firmware equal to R7.x for non-9600. The big money is paying for the flash options, the firmware bump comes with it.

another question the radio is a H09RDH9PW7BN but is advertised as a 403-470 mhz, the model code shows a R split is it possible it is hacked to operate on 403-470 instead of what ever R split is ment to be

The "R" split radio is low-UHF.

To clarify Tom's post:

Motorola's model numbering scheme has never been entirely fixed. For any Jedi, Astro Saber, or XTS 3000/3500 portable, R split does mean 403-470, whereas on other platforms it might mean something else (Astro Spectra mobiles, for example, it could mean eather range 2, 438-470, or range 3, 450-482).

Thanks for clearing that up, one other question, if i were to purchase an encryption module would i have to have a codeplug that suits put into the radio or will it just enable that option for use.

Thanks

Just install the board, and then enable the "Secure Hardware Equipped" in the software.

Now, since you don't have multikey in your flashcode, you'll only be able to use one key at a time, but there you are.

Many of the new gov't trunking 9600 P25 systems are in the 380-400Mhz sector of the band. XTS3000 only goes down to 403Mhz making them useless for many of these systems. You bet Mother M will try to sell the OP a new XTS2500/5000.

Not in Australia :-)

I wouldn't say that. City of Austin, TX PD and Fire used them on their Astro25 system when it first went live in 2003. Of course, they have since made the jump to XTS5000s, and the 3000s probably went to the crusher.

I also laugh when people parrot Shaun's stance that the 3500 was a one-off Federal-only bastard radio, since Houston FD has about 50 UHF Model 1s in service. But that's another story.

well just my luck, the sale didnt come in to being,, the seller hasnt contacted me since he agreed that he would box it up and ship that was two weeks ago ohh well i have since purchased another one with similar DSP and HOST ver, however the options arnt as good as the other one, so hyperthetically if one was to increase the options, :-) what would the best process be to make sure that the tuning isnt stuffed, i hear that after these things are done they need to be re tuned.. Thx for all your help guys..

That comes about because when you force in an archive or SRecord, it overwrites the entire contents of the codeplug, including the tuning values. So:

1. Make a backup
2. Make sure to make a backup
3. Did I mention make a backup?
4. Read radio with the Tuner software, write every setting down
5. Perform stuffing, on the radio, not the turkey
6. Read radio with the Tuner, restore previously written down settings
7. Profit?

one more question :-)

If the radio was last programmed with CPS 5.XX, is it still possible to read it with MTSX-LAB 3 and save an s-rec for backup.

Yes. Remember to read with no pack/unpack

I have noticed that with those flashy s-recs that the model is from a H09RDH9PW7AN is it possible for that to be changed to H09RDH9PW7BN i know theres probably no difference but it would be nice for at least that part to match the tag on the back.

tried to edit my srec using a hex editor and even fixed the checksum at the end of the line, loaded it and got fail 01/82 had to load my backup back in. Any thing i have missed i noticed that the model number is on line 1 and 24 of the file.

Evidently you didn't fix the checksum as you thought you did.

is there any other checksums in an srec besides the end of line ones?

I would love to be able to but I have no idea where they are. I do however know there are tools out there that enable you to fix them, and that these tools have been used to create the whoreflashes.

As far as names of these tools or what their proper purpose is, I don't know... Ive just gleaned that much from reading these forums over the years.

Good luck with your search,
Matt.

And all of those 9600 systems are government systems.
