XTS2500 Issues

Hi All,

Just got a new XTS2500 and I've got a few questions:

Some basic info on the radio: Model: H46SDF9PW6AN Model II Flash Code: 50001800048C5

1. It is showing 256 channels. I heard that in lower CPS versions, the radios dont show you all the available channels, but I'm using CPS 12. Any ideas?

2. The battery meter is not showing up. I am using an Impress battery that came with an impress charger, but no battery info under the menu and no battery meter on "home" screen. Any ideas? When I put the battery in the impress charger neither the triangle or the circle light comes on immediately, are they?

3. Channel announcements - Under radio wide config, I cannot click the "check" mark to enable them, but I am able to compress and import voice files and then I see my file under the drop down for the channel, but its not working (the channel announcement field is greyed out, but the dropdown still works).

Thanks in advance for your help...

Dave

Firmware... R07.00.00 bumped the chan cap to 512 on a 2500, and R12.00.00 bumped it to 870... You can use the newest CPS out there, but without the matching firmware, you won't gain the options available in that revision..

If it wasn't initialized when it was new in the impres charger, good chance it lost it's "smartness"...

Again, that one would go back to firmware... I believe chan announcement was added around R05.xx.xx or so... What is the firmware rev in your radio?

Marc,

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to forget about trying to get this impres battery to show the meter, and I'll just buy a brand spankin' new one and make sure I do it right from step 1. I've also noticed that my batteries from my ht1250s work in the xts2500, should I not use them with the new radio? Also, I figure that there will be no battery meter without an impres, rather, a properly initialized impres battery, but will it beep/give some sort of indication that the battery is going to die with the "old" batteries?

I've got R5 firmware on my radio (I figured out how to do channel announcements, figured out that I had to first enable read/write voice files...etc), and now I'm just left with the channel issue....so now I need to update the firmware. Again, pardon my newbie questions, but from what I've read, upgrading the firmware isn't something that I can do myself, I have to take to Moto dealer, and pay $100+ to have done? If I'm wrong, please let me know...but I guess Monday Morning will include a call to my local Moto dealer. Other than the limited channels, the radio works like a charm and I love it [got it from Leadenwah off this forum, fyi]. I'm looking for other cool stuff that I can do with it now...

Another question that came up while I was setting up my radio was I am unable to change the justification of the channel text from right to left. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

So, after talking to my friendly local dealer, this looks like a good amount of coin to get the upgrade. Is this something someone on the forums can do so I can save a little green? Or must I bow down to the power of mighty moto and their absurd prices?

A firmware upgrade is $75 + labor...

When I spoke to the dealer he had me e-mail him my radios flashcode, model #, current firmware, codeplug, and then he said that he had to call motorola, and get a quote from them....does this sound right? Or should I (in theory) be able to bring my radio in and have them do it "on the spot"? It didn't make sense to me, but then again not much with Motorola does so I was just going with the flow. Do you think he and I are talking about two different things? Or do you think hes maybe charging me to go from R05 to R... then to R12? I'm in the Boston area, if someone can recommend someone thats more helpful than the current place I'm talking with...

Thanks,
Dave

Yeah, sounds about right, the expert tier radios are above the pricebook so Motorola wants to see paperwork when the radios are upgraded or refreshed. Once the paperwork is taken care of, Motorola sends out a dongle and a CD and at that point the radio can be taken care of "on the spot."

Ok, sounds good, I guess I'm going to have to wait for my local shop to get everything straightened out with Moto, and then I'll hunker down and fork over the cash. Do they give me the dongle and CD for me to take home and do (I have CPS R12) or are they going to force me into paying a labor charge for them to do it in the shop?

Thanks,
Dave
