I'm a little cramped for space in my truck and want to add an external speaker to my XTL1500 other than type supplied with the XTL2500/5000 series. I'm unable to find the impedance specs., so my question is can the HSN9008A speaker be used with no ill affects on the XTL series mobile radio?

Thanks
Mark

The HSN9008A is 8 ohms and 7.5 watts. I do not know what the radio needs.

I believe the supplied one is 3.2 ohms. Shouldn't be a big deal in that case.

Thanks.

Mark - I found this warning below in the XTL 1500 Installation Manual

CAUTION: DO NOT use an external speaker which exceeds 7.5W
or is below 8 Ohm. Use ONLY HSN4031_ speaker kit

Page 3-4 Moto Doc 6815851H01-O XTL 1500 Installation Manual

I also looked over the XTL 2500 Install Manual and did NOT find the same warning.

Can't imagine why they'd be any different since they use the same guts.

Thanks for the responses guys and very interesting read.
Being the HSN9008 is an 8ohm/7.5 watt speaker I should be safe then.

Yes - those were my thoughts as well but that was the warning I found in the XTL1500 install pdf manual.

Understood. The manual can be a bit misleading. I've got a customer using 15 watt/8 ohm Speco externals with no problems to report.
