Are Astro Sabers as good in the TX/RX as regular Sabers are? Thanks!

I like the audio out of my Saber 3 more than my XTS3000 or HT1000, but I like those over my Saber 2. Still, I think its mostly comparing apples and oranges, and personal preference. Someone with more experience can explain any real differences in audio quality better than I can.

Well, for starters all of the Astro radios utilize DSP in the receive process regardless of whether the received signal is digital or analog. Eventually a weak signal will drop to the point where the DSP can no longer do anything with it, and that *may* occur at a point where a pure analog radio may still be able to receive it.

My personal experience with Astro Sabers versus analog Sabers and HT1000s on low-power backyard GMRS repeaters is that the latter two will still receive a signal in some areas and instances where/when the Astro Saber cannot, but the difference is negligible at best. IMHO, the trade-off in features and channel capacity versus marginally decreased receive performance is well worth it, but if you want a simple throw-down radio for just a couple of channels an analog radio might be the route to go.

Transmit as well.
