Can an XTS5000 (ntn5032?) DES-XL module also be used for an XTL5000?

Yes but the XTL uses a carrier board and shield in addition.

Does the XTL comes with the carrier board and shield as standard - or is it extra?

Its just a little metal shield, 4 little screws and a little pc board. Its inexpensive in moto dollars.

hi
if an xtl mobile has the G298(hardware multikey option but no actual encryption in it does this mean that it has the carrier board? Also If I get a flea-bay xtl mobile and buy the crypto board and carrier if needed, does the radio need to be flashed to accept / recognise the new hardware?
thanks

It more than likely would not have the carrier board. When adding the encryption hardware it would need to be programmed to see the secure hardware and then a key programmed into it via a keyloader.
