The only way a 4mb 2500 could be upgraded to 8mb would be to have the vocon replaced, and that's a pricey proposition, and chances of the depot working on a radio with that flashcode are pretty much nil. You're going to be locked into 240 conventional personalities for the life of that radio, and despite having trunking in the flash, you won't be able to assign a trunking personality to any zone/channel.

If your dealing with a 4meg VHF or UHF radio, the highest firmware is 9.xx.xx which is actually stable with little to no problems. If it's an 800 radio, then it'd be best to stick with a 8 meg radio due to the continued firmware updates needed for the 800 TRS's.

One could possably remove the 4meg IC replace it with an 8meg IC, however codeplug information (internal) will probably state the radio is still a 4meg and refuse to upgrade past 9.xx.xx. That is however only speculation.

Is it possible to program 512 personalities with 4 megs? And only 240 personalities with FPP?
