RSS Defaults

Anyone have an idea on how to change the defaults in RSS. I have one program that defaults to COM 2 and would like to have it to default to COM1. It just becomes a PITA to have to constantly change com ports every time I load the software. Thanks.

You should be able to set the COM port, and have it stay where you put it. What RSS package, specifically, are you having trouble with? If I knew, I may be able to give you step by step instructions.

Assuming you're talking about RSS (DOS), there should be an F8 Save option on the com port selection screen. Hit that and it should write your choice to the config file.

A side note to tvsjr, your config file also has to be set as a read/write file for it to save the setup info when you hit the F8. I switched computers a while back and I just copied all of my DOS stuff to a CD and then copied from the CD to the new laptop's hard drive. When I copied all of the files to CD it changed them all to read only.

Yep, true... I would figure the software would gripe if it couldn't write, but maybe not... if it doesn't, attrib -s -h -r <cnfgfile>.cfg

Thanks Jim! BTW, it was Spectra RSS. I was able to change the COM port setting for the current session only. Once I exited the program, it wouldn't save my COM port setting or my default directory setting. I checked and the .cfg file was set up for read-only. Thanks again.
