Analog Saber problem

I have a 6 watt range 1 VHF analog Saber III that will not work when it gets too warm. When it dies all the display segments are turned on (just like when the power is first turned on) and it remains stuck like this. I have found that putting it in a freezer for a few minutes will restore it to operational status. Too warm might be from leaving it in the vehicle on a hot day (not in direct sunlight) or at some point during normal duty cycle transmitting (it dies in the middle of a contact). It seems like a main board problem.
My question for the experienced Saber repair people, is if this is a common/known type of problem with a known fix?
