I am programming some radios for a buddy from a nearby fire department (with a letter from the county authorizing the programming) and legal software.... so...

I have no problems with all the basic stuff but I'm confused about Quick Call. Basically they've requested that the channel 16 is their "quiet" channel that only beeps and then opens the squelch when it hears their station toned out.

I would understand and be able to program it if they were the old style tones that there are 80 of. These guys use DTMF tones for their stations and I can't figure out how to program that in. Is there a conversion chart or something I'm missing? Do I need to know the HZ of the DTMF tones? Is there then a limit to how many tones in order to open the squelch? (these guys have a primary of 8 digits then a group ID of 6 more)

I am programming a few different models of motorola portables: (all 150 band but I guess that doesn't matter)

Currently working on a HT1000 but left in the pile after I get this figured out are a few MT1000s, HT600s and a HT750...

Also, these guys have a stack of Minitor IIs that they want me to see if I can find Crystals for. Does anyone know of any sources for Crystals? Also, same question with the minitors. Can they use DTMF tones to set them off?

For Minitor II crystals, I use Bomar Crystal Co, www.bomarcrystal.com ,
The last time I purchased, they were $10 each when ordering 10 or more of the same frequency.
There are other good suppliers. What frequency do you need? There may be someone with an inventory of good "pulls" from Minitor II, Director II, or Keynote pagers.

No DTMF decode available for the Minitor II pager, unless someone knows of an aftermarket decoder that will fit.

Might bo back to the HT1000 or HT750, never set either up for DTMF decode but they do have encode so it;s probably there.
The HT600 and MT1000 lack this option. There were 'bumped out' signalling fronts available for these in a bunch of formats
but never came accross a DTMF that did decode. (they made at least 3 variations of DTMF encode fronts).
Far as DTMF tone frequencies this is a bit easier as they're expressed as the keypad digit.

I got a little bit of clarification. Turns out the guy that provided me the frequency list didn't understand his tones and tried to give me a version of the Motorola Tone Chart. I've got a programmed radio of theirs on the way to read. They do just use the standard tones so I'm ok...

The crystals I'm looking for are:

1) 154.220
2) 154.070

I need about 13 of each if anyone has any laying around please let me know or PM me. I'll post up in the WTB section too.

My last question to you guys is how do you program the tone boards on the Minitor II pagers...? Whats up with the Reeds? I can't find a service manual on them...

Minitor 2's have no programmable features, the tone elements are fixed frequency similar to a crystal but they're plug-ins. Good pagers and probably worth the effort to get 'em going.

Found some great info on here, (a few pages on the Minitors 1 thru IV) albeit found from outside using Yahoo. Don't see the link anywhere but there is some good pager info. It looks like its going to be a bit of a PITA to take these guys apart and desolder the crystals and replace them and then I guess I have to tune them..

The frequencies are changing from ch1) 154.4300 to 154.220 and ch2) 154.3850 to 154.070. You guys think they need to be tuned?

Other than that its a matter of finding the correct Reed(s) and setting the jumpers.

BLECH I don't like old stuff.(Mostly because I don't know how to work on it) I guess its been a learning experience...

A responsible tech would tell you to re-tune on rechanelling and keeping in mind the M-2's are probably some 20 yrs. old should probably be checked anyway. But if they're going into a non-ctitical role and you want to experiment the frequencies are close and shouldn't need a full re-tune, usually crystals get a trim adjustment to compensate for variations. But in the day of xtal scanners they were pretty much a plug and play deal, so yours would probably work as well albeit a bit of performance.
