So I got a Quarter Wave Stubby antenna for my XTS2500.
I was wondering if anyone knows or has noticed a performance decrease.

Re: OEM vs Qtr Wave antenna
What band; what exact frequency?
If UHF, the stubby will be inferior to the OEM antenna, because the
OEM UHF antenna IS a full quarter-wave, or nearly so.
Figure it out for yourself:
468/450 mHz = 1.04 feet (halfwave) /2= .52 feet (quarter wave) x12 = 6.24 inches
On VHF all rubber antennas are a compromise because the length of the
quarter wave element is 17 to 20 inches or so, so all the rubber antennas are
helically wound (some are center fed, which helps a bit) but overall their
performance doesn't match that of a quarter wave.

Don't know which you've got but there will be a difference. If you're in a high signal density area you might not notice it, but take it out to the edge of the system and I think you'll find a difference. Generally the more metal in the sky the better.

Sorry about that:
800Mhz

Big time difference in the short stubby and the normal antenna at 800. Not a good choice if there
is any chance you will be in a marginal operational area.
Most of the departments that have tried a stubby antenna have gone back to the full size due
to performance. Tell the boys to just put up with the longer antenna.
