ATTN MW-800 Owners: SRN about to expire

For those of you with MW-800's, Model F5206A and IIRC the 07 with the 40GB HD, the Motorola SRN that covers cold weather problems will expire at the end of next month. The SRN covers all costs (except shipping to the factory).

The flex that will be replaced IS NOT orderable via MOL or the depot.

I'll post the details again when I get home.

This covers units that are out of warranty. The actual PDF file can be found on businessonline.motorola.com if needed. Throw your CPU in a box with a note that your unit will not power up when cold, and have "FSB10176A" referenced on it. Again, the parts listed below are listed at parts ID as depot only items. $10 worth of parts that they will not sell to you.

Here is the text from the SRN:

MODEL / SYSTEM AFFECTED:
F5206A – MW800
F5207A - MW800 W/40GB HD

Units manufactured or shipped prior to April 1, 2008 denoted by serial number prior to 736SJG0000.

SYMPTOM:
If a MW800 Mobile Workstation is in an area where the temperature is cold and drops below the temperature that
is programmed into the CPU codeplug, the unit will not power up. The default setting in the MW800 codeplug is 6
degrees C or approx. 43 degrees F. Once the MW800 Mobile Workstation warms up above the temperature
threshold, the unit will operate normally.

CAUSE:
A defect in the heater flex of the unit that will not allow the hard drive heater to turn on in order to keep the
temperature above the threshold setting in the CPU codeplug.

RESOLUTION:
The heater flex in the MW800 Mobile Workstation will need to be replaced. The unit must be returned to the
Motorola for repair:
