Probably a silly question, but...

When an XTS5000's firmware is upgraded with version 12, it provides 1000 channels.

Now the silly question, if an XTS2500's firmware is upgraded with version 12, do you get 1000 channels or are two radios not that much alike?

you get 850 but the radios are still pretty similar at the software level

870 on a 2500 with R12..
