Looking to see if anyone here can repair an XTS3500R I have. It's legit. Its UHF High split. The radio always sounds a low battery chirp when you TX on High power. On Low power it doesnt chrip. The battery is a new impress and fully charged.
I really dont want to send it to the big M. Any help appreciated.

As I recall, that low-battery chirp level is settable in the CPS, and it sounds as if yours is set too high. The result is that when you transmit on high power the battery, naturally, gets pulled down a volt or two, and because the monitor point (chirp) is set too high you're getting an alarm when this occurs. Low power transmit doesn't pull the voltage down as much so you get no alarm when you're on low power. You need someone to make this simple adjustment for you in the program for the radio.

If it is an IMPRES battery, that's the reason. There's nothing wrong with your radio.

On the XTS 3000/3500 radios, a "battery contact shield" needs to be installed over the center battery contact. It's just a little piece of plastic thats slipped in the battery over the center contact on IMPRES batteries.

There is an FSB out on this somewhere...

Slight correction Tom, XTS3500 is Dos based RSS still.. It is a setting in the RSS. I have a VHF 3500 I use as a work radio. I was actually able to get a copy of the RSS from M about 5 yrs ago. I do have the PDF of the RSS manual if the orginal poster needs it. I have heard about that TSB too I just fixed mine with a small piece of electrical tape on my IMPRESS battery

Thanks guys ill check the setting. It did happen with a non Impress battery too. I just got an Impress battery for it.

Yes, I found the electrical tape for the center contact on the battery works great as well. When I bought a brand new Impress battery for my XTS3000, I would always get a low battery alert (even after I left it in the charger all night). The electrical tape did the trick.
As for the noise on your 3500, as others have said, it's all in the RSS settings.

So you spend all the money for an impres battery and charger... and then disable the impres communications to the radio? Just buy a non-impres battery and be done with it.

Does the XTS3k even support the impress functions? I don't think it does, like the ASTRO25 radios do.

Though, in general...impress battery and charger is the way to do (I think) reguardless if your radio supports a "smart battery" display.

I'm with Pj on this one. I don't think the 3000/3500 radios even know what to do with an IMPRES battery. I'd say 90% of folks who buy IMPRES equipment could care if the smart battery gauge even works - they're more interested in the extended battery life (read - before the battery hits the trash/recycle) and "self-preservation" features.
