When I attempt to read either Radio I get the following error message. Radio Failed to acknowledge Error Context: 24, Status c0000386. The cord is new and the second one. Any help would be greatly apperiacated.

What cord are you using...the serial ribless, or the USB? The CPS needs to be set to the correct one. Otherwise, are you maybe trying to use the standard RIB and Jedi cable? That won't work.

I am using a USb Cable # rkn4105A and CPS version 11.00

Just a guess, but it may be that Windows isn't seeing the USB cable.

Plug the cable into the computer and radio, with radio turned on.

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, and under Ports, see if it does. If not, it means you have to install a driver.

Thanks it is not listed I will have to get with my companys It department to get a driver.

Also, you might want to upgrade to CPS v12 I hear 11 has bricked some radios....

I've gotten that error once, the cable wasn't seated 100% correctly, had to quit cps and reopen for it to read correctly though

All necessary drivers come with CPS. Your only real option if you suspect it's a driver issue is to uninstall and reinstall the CPS.

I suspect that it might be the computer. I have re-installed the software and got the same error. I also program CP-200, CDM, Radius, Ht-1250, 1550 etc. also with this lap top and all of those radio's work fine but they are done with a rib box set up. So thanks for the help. I am going to attempt another computer. I will let you now if it works out. I will also check with my dealer about 12.00

Also when you open the tuner it askes which port in a drop down box and the only one it lists is Com 1

Two suggestions:

1) Boot PC and CPS. With radio powered up and programming cable plugged into radio, plug it into PC. Should get boxes that say "New Hardware" and then "Driver unknown; search web or have disk" (or something like that). Put your install CD in the CD drive and click on "have disk." See if Windows finds the driver and installs it.

2) Go to Control Panel, Add Hardware, install your install CD in the CD drive, and follow instructions.

I'm guessing that your PC is running Vista. I seem to recall something in the latest upgrade about trying to run CPS under Vista; I believe that only v.12.?? will work, and even then there were some suggestions for settings in Vista before installing. Since we have embargoed Vista on our programming laptops, I'm afraid I don't recall the specifics.

I'm experiencing the same error, but with a serial based cable instead of USB. All attempts return the same error, although other (non-Motorola) radios program just fine on the same computer.

Using Windows XP, have tried native serial port as well as USB to serial adapter, no driver issues, CPS Ver 12 set to proper COM port, etc. I'm out of ideas and suspect a bad cable or bad radio. Radio works normally otherwise. It is an XTS2500/5000 cable, but from eBay. Figured I'd ask for ideas before spending more money.

Exactly. $3-$5K radio, $300 software license, and you can't afford a real cable? I can assure you a real cable is cheaper than a depot flat-rate when you brick the radio.

I CAN afford it, just preferred to save a little coin on the first try, especially since I've heard plenty of success stories with 3rd party cables. Oh well, I'll have as much money in software and cables as in the used radio. Doing my part to keep the economy going!

On the other hand, maybe I'll find a speaker mic first. I need one anyway. I'm sure the pinout is different, but if it doesn't work at all it might indicate a problem with the accessory connector or flex cable leading to it.

Or is the consensus that an eBay programming cable is a guaranteed non-starter?

I'd just hate to spend the money on the Moto cable and have the same problem.

The speaker mic works just fine, so I ordered a true blue Moto USB programming cable. Now if they will only ship the darn thing. It's been a few weeks now.

For what it is worth, I have had the same problem crop up on a pure Motorola supplied cable, radio
and RSS. have programmed XTL radios fine before. Tried to read a new radio using the factory cable
and R12.00 RSS. got the same error.

Took the same computer,and cable, went back inside the shop and it read a different XTL radio just fine.

The only difference is the new radio outside was an O5 head and the radio inside was an 03 head.
You figure.

OK then, if this problem occurs with genuine Motorola cables, and the computer can program other radios, what else can cause the problem? Should we suspect issues with the radio, and if so, what could it be?
