Dual Level Priority Scan on Motorola XTS5000

Post by Jim1348 »

I have a Motorola XTS5000 that I use on an 800 mHZ digital trunked radio system. I am set up for priority scan now, but I have been told that it can be programmed to dual level priority scanning. I asked the guy at our in house radio shop that programs the radios and he gave me a look like I was out of my mind. Can anybody straighten me out on this. Is the XTS500 capable of dual level priority scanning or not?

Yes, the radio is capable of dual level priority scan. The scan list should be setup as priority-mon in for the particular zone you're using. In the CPS, you can do a couple of things. For the main priority channel, you can program it to be "selected channel", "fixed (CPS programmed only), or "operator select". For the 2nd priority channel, it's either fixed or operator select. It's definitely possible.

That's kind of scary that your in house programmer wouldn't know this..

As a practical matter, the first priority should always be set at "SelChan." If you have a fixed channels as Priority 1, you are likely to find it impossible to maintain a conversation on some other channel without first stopping scan.
