Also, MT(S) can support multiple signalling systems. That means you can have different QCII decode settings for each channel/mode. The HT has only one global setting. The MT series also supports trunking on some models while the HT does not.

Also falls apart easier than the HT, well easier with a full screen to screw up. and is pickier about software

For day-to-day operations the MT-2000 has been the best radio I've ever had.

I felt very limited with the HT-1000. Just 16 channels and very little flexibility. I like the size and the feel of the HT-1000 just not the options. I'm starting to really need alpha-tags for the channels too.

I like the way a Saber fits in your back pocket. Very strong talker. I don't like having to go through a multi-step sequence to get into scan and I never had a System Saber.

The MT-2000 A-4 (Top display 48 Channel) has been my radio of choice for several years. Really good radio, good options, alpha, good number of channels, comfortable to carry, wide range of accessories and so on and so on. Very simple to operate, no munus' to navigate through, no confusing button types. Just a really good radio.

I've used an MTS-2000 some and haven't seen enough feature difference in my usage to be worth the price difference (of course my usage is only conventional.)

I prefer the MT-2000 over any other portable radio I've used

The MT2000 is a nice radio but it really doesn't do all that much as far as options are concerned.

I've had mine since 97 and I'm happy with it, But once I upgraded to Astro series radio, I rarley ever use it anymore.

It doesn't support the most important options that I use on my XTS3500.

If it supported MDC ID I'd be on cloud 9.......

Wait a minute, you mean the mt2000 will not do MDC1200 in any capacity? you`ve got to be kidding, I thought the only jedi radio that doesn`t is the jt1000- now there is a radio I can`t understand- If i wanted a front panel programmable radio that didn`t do MDC I certainly would not spend $1000 on only a 16 channel that was the same size as an mts2000 - that is an application for a japanese radio- at least you get more than 16 channels and at 1/3 the size- anyway, I`m done complaining

OOops- (open mouth-insert other foot) I think you meant the xts doesnt support mdc.

The XTS will support MDC encode and decode. Some early versions of the MT2000 firmware may not support MDC encode, but later versions do. No version of MT2000 firmware supports MDC decode.

MT2000's support transmitting PTTID's, Emergency Encode, and I think that's about it. They will decode (but not display) Sel-Calls, Call-Alerts, Radio Checks, Remote Monitor (not 100% positive on that feature, but probably supports it if turned on in RSS). They will not display PTTID's, Caller ID's, or other information. They also do not support status / messaging.

XTS's support the full MDC suite... There are a couple features taht do require flashing, but those are more like Selective Radio Inhibit and more "glorious" features which are more system based than for personal users.

Since I happen to personally know MRFLASHPORT, I can tell you he very well knows what the XTS line is capable of. He better. While is's not within the scope of this board to elaborate, he knows. The MTS 2000, however, can be flashed to read MDC ID. My neighbor has a MT2000, and I page the heck out of him to get his attention when he is ignoring me. He wishes that it could decode that. Lucky for me he can't see who is paging him. HEHE. I am a evil little prick. Anyway, if you aren't gonna do a lot of advanced signaling junk and don't need APCO, the MT is good. The HT1000 is essentially the same things as the MT2000 with a few obvious exceptions. i.e. no display, only 16 channels. Still will do MDC. Good "beater" radio. Need one to toss at Jake's head
