I was given an nmn6217b speaker mic and I'd like to use this on my analog system saber. Besides the antenna nut is there anything else that will need to be changed for this to work? Does anyone have a pinout of this mic? Thanks!

Speaker/mics are interchangeable between standard Sabers and System Sabers which have internal sensing circuitry to switch the antenna from the radio's antenna to the mic's antenna.

Astro Sabers change the antenna over via a small push switch on the radio, located just above the connector pads, which is actuated via a small tab on the speaker/mic. I can't recall what the 6217 is set up for but that, in addition to the different antenna connector, is the essential difference between the two types of units.

at one time I remember trying to use an Jedi Style Astro speaker mic on a analog saber it not working even when changing the nut. But for some reason the square 6128 model will work with a astro. The analong saber is a NTN6225 speaker mic is the jedi style for the analog

FireCpt809 you are correct, the contacts are the same and it fits fine but it does not work with the analog saber. I'l like to try and modify this mic to work as the NTN6225 mics seem to be very difficult to find. Does anyone have an idea as to what might be the difference, do these mics have different power requirements or resisters to active the accessory?

Forget about it. The 6217 is an Astro Saber speaker mic. As such it is made to physically actuate the button switch on the Astro Saber. It won't switch the antenna to the mic if you put it on a Systems Saber. The 6225s are around and show up every so often.

Tom I think the Public safety mic has the little nub to push in the RF switch, that transfers the RF to the antenna on the mic. The nmn6217b mic is the rounded Jedi style with no antenna. I at one time had one I tried on my analog saber. No go..

The NMN6225 do show up on Ebay and here on occasion. I currently have one on my Saber IR.

I'm wondering what the hell I was thinking when I wrote that. I guess I was confused by the OP's mention of an antenna fitting, when what he obviously meant was the thingie that covers the standard antenna port when you screw the adapter on the back of the radio. The 6217 is obviously NOT a PS unit; it's just a speaker/mic, so it has no nub on it to push the switch on the radio. Next time I'm in the basement here (weather is getting warmer!) I'll check the workability myself of an Astro Saber speaker/mic on a standard Saber -- for my own curiosity.

Yeah, no antenna on the mic itself. When I referred the the antenna nut I just meant the passthrough on the connector. The configuration of the standard square saber mic and the 6217 connector seems to be the same, same number of contacts in the same positions, but the 6217 doesn't key the radio or recieve audio from the radio. I know on the standard saber mics there is a resistor accross the accessory pins that tells the radio to activate the external speaker and mic, but I'm not sure how the astro saber mics activate that function on the radio. Maybe there is a different resistor? Or possibly the 6217 has different power requirements than the standard saber radio mic.

The pinouts are the same, but I don't know about the option sense circuit (whether or not it uses the same voltages). I'd be interested in knowing if they are interchangeable or not myself. Has anyone ever tried to remove the antenna nut out of one of these before? How much trouble is it?

No trouble at all it unscrews
