Hello all.

I have a Quantar 100w UHF repeater in my FD. Came with the battery revert option.
A few questions about getting it fully setup, if you please:


24v or 12v battery?

Do I NEED any sort of controller or just wire the plug right to the batteries? What about overcharging? issue or not?

anything else i should need to consider?

The batteries are 24v for 100w stations. We commonly use 2 12v batteries in series for all our battery backups. I beleive the only other thing you need besides quantar with battery revert capable power supply is the cable, battery and there may be a temerature compensation probe too. (small grey wire with a lug on the end)

Just a sugestion, don't cheap out and put car batteries (wet cells) on it. Get proper gel cell (or AGM) type batteries made for float applications. Something like a C&D BBG180RT

I always use marine deep cycle lead acid batteries. I have found them to last the best. We very rarely have a power failure issue and do have a generator but I like to be prepared anyway.

Wet cells release corrosive hydrogen gas and pose a few problems in that when they are charging and off-gassing the gas will cause corrosion on the electronics and connector contacts potentially shorting equipment life and reliability.

Wet cells are OK for Ham use, but fall short of the standards that should be upheld for public safety systems.

My 125W VHF Quantar had the metal plate covering the connector port where the external cable (to the battery?) is connected. Question: By simply having this connector on the Power Supply, does that mean that the unit has the Revert option installed? Can I order the cable separately (P/N=???).

Does anyone have any documentation for the revert option connections?
