I´ve found a way to run old RSS on newer PC´s.It seems to run on PC´s up to (including)
P III.P IV and dual core PC´s (AMD?)don´t work.
I tested it on some PIII machines with different speed.
No runtime and RS232 issues anymore. You only need a little cache tool.
The cache tool can be found on my homepage (downloadpage):
http://www.agh-technik.bravehost.com/download.html

Make a DOS start partition on your HD drive. You can also install Win 3.11 to run older Windows RSS that don´t work with Win XP anymore.
Copy the cache tool into the same directory like the autoexec.bat
Start slow.com to disable the cache and run the old RSS.
Start fast.com to enable the cache if you want to run Win 3.11

You can write a string in the autoexec.bat to start with disabled cache,so you don´t need to start the slow.com after booting!

If you want to run Win XP on the same PC,install it on a D: partition.
No bootmanager is needed.Win XP will install it´s own bootmanager.
Don´t install Win XP before you´ve made the C: partition and installed DOS!

As per the "Pentium Compatability Matrix" stickied in this forum, you've been able to use modern computers for years with most RSS packages, so for most that's not an issue. Hell, I run MTSX on my Centrino based laptop without any issue whatsoever. You still need pure DOS to read/write the radio, that's also been know for years.

Are you telling me you've verified this with older packages that are known not to work on anything much newer than a 486, like the Syntor X9000, Sabers, etc?

I used this setup with Saber,HT800,Rooster,Gput,GP300,GM/GP900,MX1000.
No problems with running the program or using the RS232 anymore.Even the old 286/386 RSS like HT800,MX1000sp or Rooster run and program without any problems on a P III-800.

PS:
The DOS Box is not a good choice because it is not possible to GM/GP900 and some other with it.
