XTS5000 restart problem

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone can help me. I have an XTS5000 with an issue and I am not sure what is causing it. The problem is with the volume knob. Sometimes during use when I am adjusting the volume of the radio the radio turns off and back on. The radio can do this multiple times if I keep adjusting the volume on restart. If the radio is left alone it doesn’t seem to do it. As I am not familiar with the build of the XTS5000 I wondering whether it’s a volume knob problem or a more major problem with the radio? I would like to hear if anyone else has a similar problem or advice on what the possible cause is/how to rectify this issue. Cheers!

Sounds like you have a bad volume pot/on-off switch.

What, did I suddenly turn invisible?
The first thing you need to do is to check the volume knob/on-off switch. On the XTS5k, the knob is part of the front housing top electronics block, so the easiest and most straightforward way to test it is to swap another front housing onto the radio. This will require removing the front housing and disconnecting one flex. It's not hard to do but you need to be carefull. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, seek help.

While I'd bet on Arkardam's conclusion, there are two other things to be aware of:
1) XTS5000 has firmware volume commands intended to work with the Commander series shoulder mike, and these have been problematic. I'd be sure to upgrade to f/w 12.whatever.
2) Likewise, there are problems with the Commander mikes, and if one of these is attached to the radio, remove it and see if the problem persists. I've been told that Motorola is replacing the Commander with Commander II, but I haven't seen any yet.

yes, until you fix your karma to "
doubleplusgood" you will be required to repeat your self.

The Commander II's have been shipping for some time. P/N RMN5098B. Personally I do not like the mic audio, it's very narrow and shrill. The original RMN5023A audio is very natural sounding.
