I just recently purchased an MTVA. This one is a non-amplified version with all original cables. After a little research, I attempted to test the unit. The red light comes on, and (from what I can tell) charges the battery when a radio is inserted. However, the state of the radio is unchanged, as if the radio doesn't see the MTVA at all. I've tried cleaning the contacts and ensuring the ignition control is bypassed, but I still had the same problem with both my MT2000 and HT1000.

Should I just relegate the MTVA to vehicular charging only, or do I have a chance of salvaging it? Thank you!

Could you explain your description a little better.

What do you mean by "the state of the radio is unchanged" and "ensuring the ignition control is bypassed" ?

What are you expecting to change on the radio and if you bypass the ignition sense how do you expect the unit to
function properly. The power cable that goes to the NTN1322B Non band specific Controller Unit should be hot all
the time and the yellow wire from the interface cable NKN6453A (8ft) or NKN6454A (16ft) should go to an ignition
power source or you could have a switch to send power to this yellow ignition sense wire.

Also - do you know the history of this unit - how did you aquire it?

When I lock the unit into the MTVA, nothing happens. About all it does is put enough pressure on my MT2000 that the PTT switch is pressed while in the cradle. The radio just acts like it normally does.
By saying that the ignition control was bypassed, I just mean that I've got it directly connected to power source.

I just bought it from a local government surplus sale for a pittance, so even if all it does is charge then I'll be satisfied, though I would like to get it working.

Something is not right with what you are saying. The PTT switch should never be pressed when the HT
is locked into place. There is a small circular adjustment on the side of the cradle holder unit that has
a slot in it. It should be adjusted with a heavy duty screw driver to fit the HT into place snugly.
That is about all I can think of that may help you.

Alright, after a little playing around, I've figured out some things.

The MT2000 keys up when locked into place, but the HT1000 does not. I think this is from pressure on the PTT switch, but I could be mistaken.
When the MT2000 is inserted and locked, I can transmit on another radio, and the doubling audio can be heard through the MTVA speaker.
With the HT1000 inserted, I can key up the MTVA and it transmits with no audio input from either the hand mic or radio mic, and I can hear the MDC ID after the PTT is released. Rx audio still is heard only on the radio and not the MTVA.

I'm finally getting somewhere!

Not sure how this gets you anywhere other than the charging usage. These results are confusing. It almost sounds like there is a problem with the MTVA and also the MT2000.

Question: How are you able to use the radio mic with the HT1000 when it is inserted in the holder unit, or are you referring to the MTVA mic?

Your radio has too much gas, might I suggest some Beano or Mylanta?
