This may sound like a dumb question but i'm wondering how one would open the case on a XTS2500. Looking to replace mine. Is there a special tool needed, if so where can I purchase one, Moto direct?

There is a special tool from Motorola used to open the XTS2500's without damaging the case. Not sure the part #, but Escomm on the board might be able to help you with obtaining one. Got mine from him.....
