Does the Spectra know which PA is installed?

Post by Leadenwah »

I've got to replace the whole PA section on a Spectra mobile.
Does the radio have any way of knowing that a different one has been installed?
It's a mid power radio and I have a known good PA from a 30 watt Spectra to use in its place.

No, the Spectra radio does not know if the power amplifier has been swapped. BUT the settings in the power control may have to be changed as the power amplifier components may be a little different due to manufacturing tolerances.

Affected alignment points are transmitter power Hi and Lo settings, current limit setting.

Which Spectra are you working on? 30 watts would be an 900 mHz power amp.

VHF is 50 watts
UHF is 40 watts

There are a couple of shorty power amps:
800 mHz 15 watt
900 mHz 12 watt
VHF 10-25 watt
UHF 15-25 watt

Thanks Will.

I've installed the 15 watt PA from an 800MHz radio to 30 watt radio.
