Toshiba 2520cdt - can't get RSS to work correctly

Hopefully somone can point me in the right direction as I have pulled out most of my hair over this one.
I have a Toshiba 2520cdt laptop with Win98 on it. I want to program both GM300's and Advisor II pagers on it. It has 1 serial port that according to Win98 control panel is operating correctly.

If I restart the machine in MS DOS mode, the programs run but they don't communicate with either the radio or the pager.

I am using known good RIB to Radio lead, RIB box and Universal Programming Interface.

I tried with a DOS622 boot disk, same result.

As an aside, it a bloody disgrace that a current tier product like an Advisor II pager only has a DOS based software package that won't run on a Windows platform.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mike

Mike, you need to select the proper COM port (1-4) in the RSS computer configuration menu, then "SAVE" the new setting (usually F8), then close the RSS and re-start it. The RSS should communicate with the radio after selecting the working COMM port and restarting the program.

Have you selected COM1 in the RSS computer configuration menu and "saved" the new setting?

Hi Terry

Yes done all that, checked and re-checked... Still no luck. It's got me stumped the com port works fine in Windows, apart from the RSS I don't have anything else to test the com port in DOS.

I have done this many times on many different machines, this one has me stumped !

Perhaps it's like the IBM Thinkpads, and needs the IR port turned off in the BIOS for the serial port to work in DOS? Couldn't hurt to hunt around in the BIOS anyway.

Well that wasn't the answer, but I did turn on something marked as L2 Cache which was a different setting to the Processor Cache and BINGO it works.

Don't quite understand what L2 Cache is as there is nothing in the Help for it, but it has now sprung to life.

End result good, process for getting there exhausting ! Thanks for everyones help and if someone knows what the L2 cache does, let me know!

Thanks
Mike
