VOCON repair swap on Astro Saber, info needed.

Post by Elroy Jetson »

I'v got a surplus Astro Saber vocon board that's not useful to me as it sits, being as it's set up for 800 MHz. But it's a perfectly good board.

I've got a VHF Astro Saber that has a bad VOCON board. It goes to self test, the green LED stays on, the display goes blank,
repeat.

I'm thinking there might be a way to use the 800 VOCON board and swap specific memory chips between the two,
to give me a working VHF radio.

But, I don't know which data is stored on which memory chip.

I've never actually done this particular sort of repair project and I'm a bit rusty on Astros right now. Mostly my life is now
defined by a large pile of Icom and Kenwood radios these days. I only visit Motorola radios every so often now.

Any info on how I can accomplish this goal will be appreciated.

Uh...no...I don't have any "special" software available to make the job easier.

Without any "special" software you are pretty much screwed.

But, you can take a look at page 7 here http://www.hamradio-dv.org/p25/GuideAST ... Radios.pdf and it will at least show you which chips are what.
