TXIN on P25 system w/ XTS2500

I have a XTS2500 (Host 12.0.10, DSP 12.0.0) on our state P25 system. I was attempting to use the TXIN soft feature. It appears that I do not fully understand the TXIN feature because the radio started acting strangly and not receiving all communications that it normally would (or that the 800 scanner next to it was receiving). I was understanding that TXIN would just prevent PTT but it appears that it may also interfere with affiliation. Can you any of you Moto experts clarify exactly how TXIN operates?

Thanks, first time poster here... I did search on TXIN first, but didn't find an exact answer to my question.

It restricts affilaition as well....It basicially tells the radio not to TX, period!

I'm not sure why the Transmit Inhibit menu option even exists on the ASTRO25 series because TXIN prevents affiliation (in addition to just blocking PTT). All ASTRO25 radios, such as your XTS2500, must affiliate on a digital system before decoding and receiving audio, period. They must also affiliate on an analog system to scan correctly. So your choice is to either let the radio affiliate with a correct ID, or if you're not an authorized user, sell the radio and buy another scanner.

I am an authorized user on the system as FF (I received my original codeplug from the state). My goal with the TXIN was to prevent accidental TX when I leave the radio setting on the table and the kids grab it.

Would letting the radio affiliate and then leaving it on the desired channel and then hitting TX IN work? That way it affiliated with the system so it passes audio, but at the same time you can't accidentally key up?

Either put it on a higher shelf, or get another scanner. I can't think of any other way that the XTS2500/5000 can communicate with a Trunked system without affiliating. It would work wonders on the older equipment (the XTS3000, and ASTRO Saber), but few have had luck with the newer radios (the 5K, 2.5K, etc.). Or, try LuiePL's advice above.
Good luck.

It will work as long as the radio doesn't have to switch towers.

What happens if you have talkgroup scanning enabled in this scenario?

I was going by the OPs scenario of it being on a table at his house. More than likely it won't be switching towers, but that would be a consideration if he were to have it in the car with his kids maybe.

Shouldn't matter, scanning doesn't affect affiliation or tower roaming.

The ASTRO25 series radio's will NOT work with the TX Inhibit options at all on an ASTRO25 trunked system. The radios WILL work like the ASTRO Sabers/XTS3000 for Smartnet/Smartzone analog or digital. Just not in ASTRO25 mode.

There IS a workaround for 800MHz based systems, but does not appear to work for OBT systems (so far). See a post below about that.

The radio WILL report site ID and RSSI values with TX Inhibited on an ASTRO25 system, but nothing else will work.

I spoke to Moto about this for mutual aid purposes (being on one system but want to scan another ah-la talkgroup scan) and they said no, but might be in the works, but couldn't comment on stuff they are thinking about. Could have been humoring me, or hinting, so don't hold your breath.
