XTS3000 Displays - Say, Bye Bye!!

The 5105385Y19 display for the XTS3000 has been made obsolete by M.
The replacement, the 5185633C42 (around the same price $72) is B/O until June, 2009. The reason? Motorola is making a one time purchase to support the product through end of life.
Better get your orders in if you want a replacement display. I ordered 3 for my radios.
An issue with the new display is that after installation, if it fails to function, call aftermarket support. Apparently there is a flash available to fix this issue. They could not tell me what revision radios would have this problem.

All of mine are 7.71.06 so no worries.
I knew of that, just wanted to remind everyone. The biggest problem is that once they have this new order in stock, there will be NO MORE orders for displays to replenish their inventory.
Once again, the industry moves faster than radio technology, obsoleting parts faster than we can sell customers new radios.

I see a lot of posts on the board about displays... What the hell are you guys doing with your radios that you need replacement displays? I see hundreds of XTS3000's across my bench over the span of a year, and only one has ever needed a replacement display.
Just curious.

When you buy them cheap from other people with broken displays....
I think right now I own about 30 handhelds with displays. I have never broken a single one in more than 20 years either.
I recently picked up 5 XTS3000s for parts. They all worked with various problems, cases, frames, controls, displays.
For an investment of the original $100, I now have 5 really nice radios.....

Oh yeah. I had to repair the VOCON board on one of them, and it turned out it was an XTS5000. The seller didn't know the difference.
Pays to hunt around in the Salvation Army once in a while....

No kidding. That's not a bad deal, I'll try that.

I'm on my fourth. Finally found out what was doing it. The snap on the cheap nylon case lines up with the bottom center of the display. A bump of just the right amount on the snap button would crack the display every time. Asked for a new case. Answer "don't worry about it, they'll fix it under the maintenance contract" .
