H371 Option on XTS2500

Post by ASTROMODAT »

Does anyone know exactly what the purpose is of Option H371 on the XTS2500 Model III ? It says "5 Zone Operation" in the ECAT, but I don't know what this means, since the XTS2500 Model III should be capable of a huge number of Zones without this option. Also, the XTS5000 Model III has the same Option H371 available, but it says in the ECAT that you must add Option H477 (factory channel programming) when ordering the no cost H371.

Help---I'm confused!

Description Nomenclature APC Price
ENH: 5 ZONE OPERATION H371 407 $0.00

This option exists for a specific customer and is part of the factory programing option. Certain customers on a nationwide basis use their radio's right out of the box.

Thank you very much for your response on H371! I am ordering several XTS2500's, and I had no idea what this option was. It's interesting that it dates back to XTS3000, all the way through to the current front line XTS5000.

I'm curious, do you know what customer is driving this, and any details about what these 5 Zones are? Why can't the customer invoke the Factory Programming option, and then specify the specific 5 Zones thye want, along with the various TG's?

I still don't understand what makes this an option, sicne they could do anything they want with the Factory Programming option, inlcuding having excactly 5 Zones, etc.!

Thanks, in advance, for all of your kind help on this!

Interesting... Maybe the word "Zone" doesn't mean zone - as in a group of channels...

You may be on to something abot a "Zone" not equaling a "Zone...".

I have asked many, many folks about this option both before and after I posted, and so far, I have not been able to get an answer.

The only thing consistent is that 1) H371 is an option across all of the XTS series radios, and 2) it requires the Factory Programming option. That's it. But it makes no sense to call it "5 Zone Operation," since that is a simple, no-brainer feature that could be easily implemented by limiting the number of Zones to five in the CPS!

I am starting to wonder if H371 invokes some sort of a hardware change, such as replacing the 3 position (A,B, C) top mounted toggle switch with a 5 position, top mounted switch, perhaps whereby each switch position calls up a particular Zone. This might also explain the need for factory programming.

I have also placed inquiries into Motorola, via various channels (Sales and Technical), but so far I have not yet hard back from them. I have spoken to a number of otherwise knowledgable Moto guys, and they have so far come up empty handed.

Help!!

Thanks!
