Morning, The XTS5000 that I am trying to add talkgroups into is model H18KEF9PW6AN flashcode 500008-000482-8 I need to add some talkgroups into the system and still learning about the CPS software so I thought I would ask before getting in over my head. The radio has a system key and system ID and the relevant control channels are entered for the site that we are on. I wan to be abel to add in another talk group for our site so we are not all on the same channel. It would be nice for our work at a hotel to have more than one talk group and the system will support it. My question is where in the CPS do you enter in additional talk groups? is it the Talkgroup List? I have one listed in there already. Talkgroup 2 and Site Alias Text TG 00002. I am hoping that this is the right place to add in more talk groups.
Thanks

1) Please do not take offense, but I can tell from your question that programming a trunked system subscriber unit is foreign enough to you that you are advised to have the system operator do it for you. It is far too easy to make a mistake that can wreak havoc with the system.
2) That said, and assuming you have the proper software, cables and system key, you add a talkgroup by adding the TGID (3-digit hex number) to the list of TGs under Trunked Personality, then go to the zone/channel page and select the Personality and TG for each slot.

Thats the problem of this system is I got thrown into this as the system owner and now have to make sure this all works. I am getting on the job training for all of this and that fact I am not happy about. I have never dealt with a trunked system before and am having to learn very fast to make it all work AND have it work right. Trunking for me is a pain and would have made it a few conventional repeaters but that not the case and the trunking was already in place with a single talkgroup. Now the management wants several talkgroups, one for each department. I have to each all the personell how to talk to each other in a different deparment if they need something. Sucks being thrown to the wolves but thank you for the information. I will add the talkgroups into the system and the radios.

I'm sorry, but you are saying you have a trunking system, with 1 talkgroup?

Yeah unfortunately the system was set up by the lowest bidder. So it was set up to accommodate multiple talkgroups for each department to be able to avoid multiple traffic but I am guessing that from what they had in the past was one repeater for the main group and a second channel on the output with a different tone for another department. The radios were programmed with BCLO and just about everybody was trying to talk and getting error tones as the BCLO was interfering with signal. It was a mess and I am still trying make sense of it as to why you would have everyone on a single talkgroup instead of having multiple talkgroups. We have several departments that could use some privacy about certain matters that don't need to be heard by the rest of the building. I am in the position of having the home office getting the bid and setting up the radios and the system. And then they found out that there was nobody on the site to be system admin and trustee of the repeater and take care of the radios in case of problems. That's why they hired me to be able to have someone on site to maintain the system. But like I said I don't have a lot of experience on the trunking end in radios but do in cell phones being a tech for Qwest. I do have radio experience in the radio area but its only in the conventional area. Best money can buy for the lowest bidder? I know its an old joke but hey its a job.
