flash upgrade???

Hi guys-

I have an XTS3000 that I bought used a while ago that I'd like to add a couple codes to (so I can program it for the system at work) Wondering what the rough pricing would be for adding Q883, Q361 and Q574? They recently upgraded to P25 digital and I can't seem to program the new system into it, despite having all the info (the astro 25 section in the SW is greyed out...) Maybe I can already program it but am doing something wrong... This is the first time trying to program P25, but I figure it really isn't that much different than the rest... My current flashcode is 599108-5F4600-1 (have a lot of options, just apparently not the one(s) I need for the new system...) The work radio (XTS2500) flashcode is: 500018-000488-0. Any reccomendations on a good shop to do the flash?

On another note, what is the option code for MDC1200 (I think they call it something else?) I'd like to flash that into my VHF XTS3000 depending on price.... Thanks again.

ASTRO 25 support on XTS3000 requires a specific firmware revision, and is 800-only. Essentially, true P25 trunking is a kluge in that platform. As Jeff says, you also won't be getting Moto to upgrade that radio - it's a whore.

The strong preference would be an A25-platform radio - XTS2500 or XTS5000.

This also supposes you are a legitimate system user and have authorization to program your personal radio on the system. Otherwise, you should purchase a Uniden 396.

Thanks for the concern about being a legit user with permission to add the radio onto the system... It seems everybody is always so concerned with that... Yes, as a public safety individual (fire service) I not only have a legit reason for being on the system, I have the blessing from the sysadmin... Government can be a funny thing: we don't have enough money to buy radios for everybody, but if you have one, you can add it to the system (read: help us balance the budget by buying the equipment you need to do our job yourself... Gotta love it) When was the last time you saw the PD having a bake sale outside WalMart so they could buy bullets?.....

Thanks for the info on the flash... Seems the previous owner must not have been as knowledgable and forthright as I was led to believe... The 3000 seemed to be the right fit for me since I have others in UHF and VHF. Guess I'll have to start looking around for a 2500 or 5k and sell this one... Well, at least it worked until the town ABSOLUTELY HAD to go P25 (the analog system worked fine, and we've had nothing but problems since bumping up; not to mention some radios that won't work on the system anymore, like my other 800: the MTS2000) Did I mention I hate digital....? Thanks again.

The 3K and Astro Saber work just fine on a P25 Smartzone system. I'm not sure what problems some of the others have had but we use them every day and they work fine. But, like escomm said, the problem is getting a hold of one with the correct firmware and flash.

A "Smartzone P25" system would be a 4.x Smartzone control channel (3600bps) with P25 CAI digital voice (also supports analog voice with older radios). Correct, an XTS3000 will work just fine on these systems, any band.

An ASTRO25 system would be a 7.x system - true P25 control and voice. No analog.

Based on the OP saying that the ASTRO 25 section is greyed out (so he's looking for ASTRO 25) and his work XTS2500 being flashed with ASTRO25, I'm making the ASS-umption that he's attempting to configure the radio on a true ASTRO 25 system. The XTS3000 will work OK on this system - assuming it's 800MHz only (no OBT, no 700) - and you can get it flashed with a. the appropriate flashcode and b. the appropriate firmware (N06.71.xx/DSP08.03.05). It won't support VHF/UHF/700, many enhanced features (IV&D, TMS, etc.), etc. Moto isn't going to touch that whored radio. And getting an ASTRO 25 flash in an older ASTRO-platform radio can be challenging even if the radio is legit - Moto really wants you to buy an A25 radio.

Yea, no disagreements here, just saying that we have a few on a true 7.x astro system and they work fine and have been very stable.

Ah, but what happens if you try to put in a 3600 system in that radio? No joy right?

If you have an XTS3000 with the correct firmware for operation on 9600 systems it will still work fine on 3600 systems but certain features such as private call will not be available on the 3600 systems. [those fields will be greyed out in the CPS]

As will on-PTT affiliation.

Any ideas what else does not work when you put 9600 in a 3000? Lets say I have the funding source to upgrade a few hundred radios and got such a flash approved. I don't want to have to surplus this equipment, but to maintain usefulness, I'd like for them to be able to operate on a local 7.x system.

You loose MDC1200 on the Astro Saber/XTS3000 radios.

Loose or lose? :) Well, loss of MDC1200 would be a deal breaker. Necessary for VRS emergency.
