XTL program cable

I need to program XTL 2500 and 5000 mobiles with hand held control head. From a search I think I have learned that a HKN6160A serial data will program radios with any head and any power level. Is this correct?

Nope. That cable cannot be used on a high power drawer.

What is the part number for the high power cable?

All high power (110w) XTL's, regardless of whether they're configured for W series or O series, have a GCAI connector on the TIB on the front of the radio drawer. The standard USB GCAI cable would be preferred, but the serial GCAI cable will work, too.

You can also use the DB25 connector. I don't know if Motorola has a program cable for that connector or
not. You can always build your own.

You're talking about J600. Motorola does indeed make a data/programming cable for use with that connector, part number HKN6122 (which is a 20' long data cable). However, that connector does not expose USB routed to it, so you only have access to serial. Given that the USB GCAI cable is actually slightly cheaper, and that it's around $50, it's cheap enough that you might as well just buy OEM and save yourself the hassle of building a cable.

I am also looking to program an XTL with O3 HHCH. However, mine is a mid-power. My understanding is the mid-power XTLs will not support USB programing via the GCAI on the TIB.(from this thread: http://batboard.batlabs.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=80774 ) Am I understanding correctly that if I want to program a O3 XTL via USB, my only option is to use HKN6163 USB-to-rear accessory data cable?
