Astro Simplex Channel Talk Permit Tone

Post by WCHija »

I am trying to Wifeproof my radio system. I need to figure a way to have the radio emit some kind of sound on an Astro simplex channel so that she knows its okay to start talking, especially when encryption is in use. I noticed a substantial lag, not substantial enough for those of us who count to 1 before talking, that cuts off the first part of a transmission when using an XTS5K to talk to an XTL5K when using Astro with ADP. Is there a setting that will accomplish this? I have it figured out for analog using MDC and the posts I found using the search all seemed to deal with analog.

Off the bat, you might be able to try the DVRS/Trunked PTT trick found here in this subboard. This will make the radio think its talking to a DVRS and will give you the trunked PTT beeps. Don't know if it will help.

You could also try some of the TPS settings. I'd play, but I am going on shift in 10 mins, but that the only thing I can think of off hand.

I will give that a try, I was hoping to keep TMS, but the tone is more important.

I know you mentioned secure, but if you forgo that then you can enable the clear TX alert tone, that gives you a single "boop" with each press of the PTT.

IIRC, you will not get that beep when in the secure mode. When transmitting in the clear, the beep you would get really isn't anything of a delay at all - as its just like a button press. What he needs is a MDC sidetone for digital :)

An MDC SideTone for digital would be great, too bad its not an option. I am really stumped on this. Oh well, perhaps when my FPP XTL5K comes in...
