XTS5000 encryption module

Two-part question about XTS5000 encryption modules:

1) Are the modules interchangeable with the XTS3000?

2) Is there a way to determine if a module is installed in the XTS5000 without opening the radio or reading the CPS?

Thanks,
BL

Not sure on the first point, as I don't play with encryption very much. However, if the radio is a display model, you can put it into test mode by pressing the button directly above the PTT 5 times within 10 seconds of the 'self test' power up message completing. The radio will show HOST and DSP firmware verisons, and if there's a module in there the next thing it'll show is the 'secure version', then the algorithms it's capable of...otherwise it'll skip it & go to the model & serial numbers.

caveat - I know in the XTS3000 I've seen where if the CPS doesn't have the "hardware module" field checked off under the 'secure' settings, the radio will not show that there is an encryption module installed in test mode. That might be a firmware dependant thing too, I don't know. Not sure if the 5000's do that as well.

As for the first question, looks like nope....

There's a LOT of info here you might be interested.... http://www.akardam.net/moto/docs/mirror ... odules.pdf

The UCMs for XTS5000s appear physically quite different from the older UCMs for XTS3000s.

You can see pictures of both here.... http://www.akardam.net/moto/docs/mirror ... .00.01.pdf

Heres some good answers.

1) No. They aren't.

2) Attach the radio to a PC and load CPS. Enable Secure Hardware. When the radio reboots, it will bonk ERROR 09/10 if there is no secure hardware installed. If there is, the put the radio in service mode and the firmware and algorithms will be revealed.

Cheers,
Matt

Further to point 2. If there is a module present but secure hardware is not enabled then you're SOL :)

An XTS5000 will display the secure board version and algo's in service mode if it has a board installed, regardless of whether or not secure hardware is checked in the CPS, unlike the XTS3000..
