Minitor III pagers won't accept new program

We have a few Minitor III's and have recently changed frequencies. When trying to program the new frequency (tones didn't change), the pager gave an error that said "Model # error" and would not accept the program.
This happened in two of the six pagers we tried to program. I sent the first one to fail to the Pager Clinic and they sent it back saying that it was "not repairable". Is this common? It certainly hasn't happened with any of the other Minitor pagers we've ever owned. Is it possible to have someone (Motorola??) repair the pager or is it a paperweight?
