Traps and pitfalls: Things not to do while programming.

Feel free to add things to this list that you've discovered. It could turn into a handy little guide to newbies, with a little work.

If programming a radio with both trunking and conventional zones in it, and you're going to use the rotary selector for zone selection,
be very sure that you program the rotary selector for zone operation in both conventional AND trunking modes, or you may find that you turn to a mode where there is no zone selection available and you're now trapped in that zone.

Typically, you'd program zone operation on a button, but if you program it for rotary operation, and you didn't program the rotary for zone operation in trunked
mode, once you turn to the trunked personality you'll have no way to go to another zone. (unless it's also programmed as a menu selection.)

I know I had some others to add but I can't remember them at this moment.

That's a great tip but CPS will puke an error when trunking and conventional buttons don't match. Would be pretty hard to overlook tbqh

Well...I've done that exactly on an Astro Saber. It's how I found that trap.

Maybe it was fixed in a later release, but it is something to watch out for.

Don't watch Evangelion while programming a radio, and especially while writing to Astro Sabers with old Astro Lab.

On a more serious note, ensure that all RF-emitting devices are located several feet away from the computer, RIB, and cables during a write cycle. I learned that one the hard way with an analog Saber, but luckily it recovered with a new from-scratch codeplug.
