I would like to record audio from a MTR2000. What kind of connector is the P5601? I see that I can buy an interface cable from Motorola (01-85180U01) but I don't have time to wait. Is this a modular connector or a special-must-order connector?

Would I be better off pulling audio from the wireline?

To avoid any interference with the wireline, would I be better off pulling audio from the P5601 connector or pulling audio directly from a tone remote (solder wires to the speaker)?

There are a couple of places that you could pull audio from. The question is what audio are
you looking to obtain, RX, TX or both? I guess it might depend on how the radio is connected.

The radios should be defaulted to having tone remote abilities. This is available on the back
of the upper left center. There is a 4 port black block that is used for the tone remote
connections. You can have 2 wire or 4 wire depending on how the radio is programmed.

The RX audio is also available on the rear 96 pin connector, but it is unsquelched on some of
the pins. The other pins depends on which optioned wire line board is installed. The there
is the audio speaker jack on the front of the radio. This is a 4 pin connector like the narrow
connector used on most telephone handsets. A standard RJ11 connector will NOT FIT. It
will be too wide to go into the connector. (Mother Motorola strikes again with a non standard
part)

I would cap couple the line connections that you make. That way you won't cause any
problems if you accidentally short the wires. I myself also would use a 600 ohm isolation
transformer to help isolate any connections.
