Hello all. I've had a UHF range 2 Spectra in my car for about 3 years now & have been very happy with it's performance. Used for talking to friends on amateur freq's. Will did his magic on the caps, so that problem is taken care of. While most of the freq's have been set to PL decode, this function wouldn't work unless I touched the back of the mike to the door striker. [bare metal & grounded] The whole interior of the car is plastic & I didn't want a hang up clip, as I wanted the radio to decode all the time. I opened the mike & saw the blue hub wire. I disconnected it from the back of the mike & grounded it internally on the circuit board. Now it works perfectly & does what I want. Will this cause any undesirable side effects I haven't thought about? The radio still scans fine. I understand the theory of hanging up the mike & monitor for shared repeater freq's, but these don't apply for Amateur Radio use. Anything I haven't thought of? GARY N4KVE

Unless you may want to put the receiver into carrier squelch mode, your good to go. You could
always use a button on the head for monitor. Depending on which head you have, there may
or may not already be a button for monitor.

I forgot to mention it's an A5 head with a monitor button. GARY N4KVE

Just go into the radiowide settings and disable the HUB switch. Since we are on exclusive in our area channels, we usually disable this as an option.

On a shared repeater system this is not a good idea since the FCC requires you to monitor before transmitting.
