IS there a trick to the control head resync on a XTL5000 with 05 head. Display is very dim and reads maintence mode remote mode.

Dash mount or remote mount?

I just did several, and it took hitting the button several times (one took 11 times) before it would finally go. It was a giant pain.

Yep. As far as the text being faint, that's not a good sign. What's the model # of the control head? If it's an early revision, they had all sorts of odd issues... I've got a few that have funky contrast.

Generally, when I've run into the problem as described with dim text or anything else of that nature, it has been a low voltage situation.
I've run into the maintenance mode situation with a remote head not being recognized, but it didn't have a dim display in that case.

Im powering the unit on a base power supply.

Works fine with other xtl radios.

When you run the firmware upgrade application in the CPS, a pop up box should have made mention of what to do should the firmware upgrade fail, which it seems like it has here. The pop up made mention of maintenance mode, perhaps you should attempt to reflash the radio to at the very least see the popup window and act on it.
