XTS5000 Model Number Decoding

How can I tell if a 5k was originally an "R" model? Does simply recasing it into the R case make it an R?

I believe it should have a funny looking hex head style recessed pressure valve type screw on the radio frame on the inside below the vent ports when you remove the battery.
