Astro Saber 512K Firmware Upgrade

Post by MotoFAN »

Hi all!

I have purchases Astro Saber Model 3:

Host R03.00.00
DPS I04.02.09
Flashcode 440001-000000-7

It currently can do VSELP only, but I need IMBE.

Therefore I want to upgrade firmware to the latest available for 512K VOCONs. I do not want to replace VOCON board right now.

I have RLN1015C SRIB and RKN4046A Flash/Service Cable. And I hopes that I'll be able to upgrade firmware by oneself.

Now I want to order FLASHport upgrade kit from escomm (he's the best!). It's possible as Jess said.

But I worry about FLASHport upgrade file (.cvn?). I hopes that Motorola will send us CD with .cvn file for 1 MEG radios. Something like R07.71.xx (Host) and x08.03.05 (DSP) instead of R05.60.xx (Host) and x06.05.xx (DSP). New firmware files will not 'fit' to 512K radios by clear reasons.

But I do not want to make useless experiments for my $85. I want to know in advance how it will be after I get FLASHport kit.

Anybody have experience in this area in 2008-2009 years? Please clear this situation!

How to get proper FLASHport upgrade file for 512K radios?

Any other help will be appreciated!

Yes, anyone who can clear this up? Motorola told me today that 512k radios will not support IMBE, that you must have a 1 meg controller     But I can't seem to find out if the Astro files are like the Astro25, in that they contain firmware for the smaller controllers as well

A 512k radio can support IMBE and no the 1 meg file doesn't contain the info for the 512k. There is a 512k cvn file for IMBE.

I should have added that you also must upgrade the flashcode to IMBE before the CPS will even put the IMBE cvn firmware into the radio. If you don't it will error out. IMBE upgrades from Motorola run around $500 or so I think (don't quote me on that). They do the firmware then though.

Thank you!

But how to get 512K .cvn file if Moto mail out only 1 MEG .cvn files?

Or I am worong and CD from Upgrade kit will include also 512K files?

In theory they should be asking you for your model #, serial #, current host/dsp, flashcode and vocon size.

1 meg and 512k files do not come together.

They work fine on astro, not 9600 system. He just wants IMBE.

Moto does NOT send 512K .cvn files for a long time ago :(
