MTX8000 keypad problem

I have a MTX8000 B7 and the 15 key keypad doesn't work, but everything else does. Anyone know what a common problem is with these radios and the keypad not working? I don't think it is the flex cable because I ohmed it out and everything seemed to be ok with it, but it still could be. I looked at the board that the LCD display is mounted to, it is a NTN7154A and I noticed that there is a resistor missing at the spot R25. Is there supposed to be a resistor there? If so, what value? I can't find a schematic of the board online or in the service manual I have. Thanks for any help.

I recently had that problem with a radio like that. Fixed it by cleaning the back of the buttons that contact the circuit board with alcohol on a Q tip. Worked like new after that. GARY N4KVE

What kind of alcohol did you use? I am guessing not rubbing alcohol.

Well guess what, you were right. I tried a different keypad and it worked!! Thank you for the suggestion. Now if I could get myself a hold of a Smartzone codeplug to force in it.

I used Isopropyl alcohol from Target. Glad your radio works again. GARY N4KVE
