Most newest versions will run with no issues. Specifically, version 12.00.00 or higher of the Astro25 CPS, version 5.03.00 of the Astro CPS specify they are Vista SP1 compatible. As well, so is the latest MotoTRBO CPS. Other CPS such as Professional & Commercial series seem to work fine if the install is run in 'XP Compatibility' mode, for people who've tested them. You can also install XP within a virtual environment using "Virtual PC 2007". You can find some more info in the following sticky thread:

The only problem i have with CPS in vista is that some drop down menus crash cps, for example in zone channel assignments when you click on talkgroup and press the little down arrow then go to the last talkgroup in the list and press down once more it completly crashes..
this is with ver 12 mobile and portable

I've run MTS2000 R02.02 in Vista Home with Classic Theme, XP SP2 compatibility mode. Won't run any other way.
No problem with Astro 25 R13 portable and mobile, Pro series R06.10, or Astro Saber/XTS3K R05.03 and Astro Spectra R05.03

Most of the newer CPS will work fine with Vista or Windows 7 x86 32 bit, but with 64 bit I couldn't get any Astro CPS to work.

I run Motorola Trunking Professional Radio CPS (900 MHz) on a Vista Ultimate laptop without any problems. I've tried it both ways - standard install and also XP Compatibility Mode install, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. But, I would go with the XP Compatibility Mode install just to be safe.
The software has never crashed, but I do sometimes have a port opening issue issue with a USB to serial converter and the Motorola ribless cable, but I just check to make sure that the port is open and communicating first. When I used a Motorola RIB instead, I had more port opening issues but everything was fine one I verified that the port was open and communicating.

Guys,
Just a quick update to this topic - I'm running the v12 portable CPS in Win7 RTM x64 with no issues at all. I told Patport.exe in 'properties' to run in compatibility mode for XP SP3, then I told it to disable desktop composition & run as an administrator.
Now, it automatically shuts of aero-glass when it runs, programs my 2500 & 5000's just fine, and then re-enables aero-glass automatically when done!
I was able to make CPS work in Win7's XPM. but the whole idea of reading & writing through a VM interface scared the crap out of me...

Hi, I am running Win7 Ultimate x64 and although the CPS installed correctly, I can't get the USB drivers installed. When I connect my XTS5000, Win7 says it can't find an x64 driver and that the driver .exe in FudallyFiles is not x64 and that I should contact the vendor for x64 drivers.
I also noticed there was a MotorolaFL08USBVista.inf file in the common files/motorola folder, but Win7 says it's not a valid driver file and brings me back to the "specify driver" screen.
I did try running the DPInst.exe with the same compatibility settings as PatPort.exe, but it still errors out saying it's not x64.
This is not terribly critical as I will be installing an XP partition, but it would be clever to have Astro25 running in Win7 just for grins and giggles.
BTW, I do have VirtualXP installed, but I haven't even bothered trying to install CPS on the VM since Win7 won't see the device, I can't imagine how the VM would properly see it.

Jeff,
I can't help you with the direct-USB issue, as I am using a genuine Motorola serial cable on a high-grade USB converter, and it works just fine. I have to edit what I said above, I no longer have to run the software in compatibility mode (just have it disable desktop composition & run as 'admin').
I have XPM installed in the x64 versions of Win7 that I have on both my desktop and laptop - running CPS in XPM on the laptop with the above cable combo allowed the software to see AND read my XTS2500 (I was not about to risk either of my 5000's for a blind-test!).

Unsurprisingly, Motorola doesn't have any x64 USB drivers. Called post sales today for grins and giggles.
