Stupid question here!
Can I use or am I able to use a maratrac siren as a stand alone unit, not connected to a radio. I have a siren, cable, and controller that appear to work this way, but I am not able to get the control head to light up when powered on.
Thanks, Rob

Yes, it is usable as a stand-alone unit. For the backlight on the control unit to work, it is usually hooked to the VIP port of a radio's control head. You will simply have to connect the proper connections to +12VDC and ground. Unfortunately, I don't know which connections to use.

Hey all,
Having some issues trying to get the maratrac siren to work stand alone. I installed jumper JU5 but I dont have the unit working. Any ideas, here is the instructions that I have:
Thanks, Rob
If you have a MaraTrac DEK HLN1300A, and a SirenPA HLN1318A, and
Siren-to-DEK cable HKN4337A, my rigging will work.
Internally to the DEK, make the following mods:
* Install a short for JU3. This mod connects the orange fuse lead to the
DEK-- which allows the ignition switch (or a switch of your own) to turn the
unit on and off.
* Intall JU5 to connect MIC-BIAS to microphone
* If you want a momentary switch to activate the airhorn when in manual
mode, install JU1, but remove JU2.
* If you want a momentary switch to activate the wail when in manual mode,
install JU2, but remove JU1.
You have to get access to the VIP connector on the back of the DEK.
VIP pins Connection
-------- ----------------
21 GND
4, 1 Connect together so that the microphone will work in PA mode
5 GND
34, 35 Connect together via a momentary switch to sound the manual air
horn(or wail)
36, 3 Connect across any speaker that you want to rebroadcast.
19 GND

There are several different configurations of the MaraTrac siren/PA. You will probably need the 6880102W29 MaraTrac siren/PA manual to figure out the correct setup and part numbers for your siren.
