Hi guys!
I have been a Motorola "fan" for decades.I recently purchased a Astro Saber 3 (or so it seems) and have problems getting the CPS to allow Transmit frequencies below 448.000. It does allow RX down to 440.000Mhz
I need to be able to TX/RX from 440.000Mhz to 450.000Mhz for HAM use.

Here is what I have...
Legit CD of CPS R05.02.00 (I have a few XTS-3000's)
Radio=H04SDF9PW7AN
Serial= 465AUG0xxx
Codeplug=0009
Host= 02.02.00
DSP=03.04.03
Flash= 800001-000000-2
H35
How do I get it to program down to 440Mhz?
Can I get the entire keypad to dial live? It will only send from a list at this time.

The radio programs from 448Mhz to 520Mhz with no problem, works fine (except DTMF)

Thanks in advance for any/all help!

Hello Kirk & welcome to the board. In the model # of your radio please note the letters "SDF". The "S" indicates the 450-520 MHZ split. You should have purchased a "R" split radio which covers 403-470 mhz. The post above mine explains how to get around that, but the radio will now be out of it's band range & may not work up to specs below 450 MHZ. The "F" in "SDF" means the radio was built as an Astro Saber 2, which means no keypad, just the blue buttons. If the radio was converted properly the keypad should be hot. However the previous owner might have just put a model 2 radio in a model 3 case without telling the radio it is now a model 3. I do own an Astro Saber that was a model 2 but was correctly upgraded to a model 3 & works correctly. It did come from a member here who has lots of experience in this field. Radios from that famous auction site are a roll of the dice as to whether they will operate correctly & have firmware & flashcodes that work with each other. There are many reputable sellers on this board who sell quality equipment that has been correctly maintained & not hacked. Read the feedback files & see who they are. Good luck with your radio, & I hope everything works out with it. GARY N4KVE

Kirk,

One more specific thing you need to know. If your radio is a properly set up/converted Model 3 with a keypad, the keypad won't do anything unless you check the "Hot Keypad" box which is located in the Transmit section of the Conventional Personality setup section. You must do this for each individual personality.

Regards,

Just to comment on the eBay thing. I have had good experience with me buying a radio on there, as well as other items.

If you are going to buy one off of an auction site, make sure there is more than one picture and that it came from a department. When I was looking for some on eBay and came across the one i eventually got, one of his channels was HCSO, which is a county in Florida where Tampa is located that upgraded to a digital trunk system. if you get radios that came directly from a police department or some other agency, they were most likely not hacked, but I guess anything you buy on FleeBay you have to take with a grain of salt, ask questions and do research.

Good Luck with the Out of band mod. I don't think you can go all the way down to 420Mhz range with that band split of radio, but I guess it is worth a shot! :P

I've purchased a few radios there & they have been good, but I have seen many radios there which had the telltale signs of being a mutt. 1 meg vocons with nice Imbe flashcodes & ancient firmware which would only support Vselp, etc. You just have to know what to look for. GARY N4KVE
